BIO:  Hi everyone, I'm Poppy! I came from a hoarding situation in North Alabama.  There were 25 or more pups like me living there in horrible conditions.  These sweet folks at AADR took me in and spiffed me up!  I have had a few minor medical problems and I'm a tad over weight, but my foster mom says I'm doing great and already losing those extra pounds.  I should have my girlish figure back soon!  I get along great with my big sister, Cassie and my brother, Lincoln.  We love to run outside!  I'm even getting along with my foster's grandson who is just a toddler.  I like to lick his hand when he tries to pet me!  

Foster mom says I need to learn what it's like to be a family member.  I spent quite a bit of time in my crate in my other life and I still feel most comfortable there, but foster mom really wants me to be in the house with the rest of the family.  I'm working really hard on becoming a 'house pup' and foster mom is really proud of me!  I am crate-trained and we are working on housetraining and leash training.  Foster mom says I'm getting the hang of this 'house pup' thing!  

I'm still a work in progress, but I'm on the look-out for my forever home.  Foster mom promises me that one day someone will see me and love me instantly and I will go to live with them forever and ever!  She says I need a family that will love me and treat me like a little princess because I have really had a hard beginning and I deserve to be pampered the rest of my life! Will you be the one to love me forever and ever?

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
