I would like to introduce Harley. Harley is an 11 pound black and tan smooth coated boy about 1 ½ years old. Harley was an owner surrender and he came into rescue with a bad case of demodectic manage. He was treated with ivermectin and mitaban dips and now is growing a beautiful soft coat.
Harley is one spunky little guy. I like to call him “Mr. Busy” as he is always in a hurry to get somewhere. He is not shy and has loads of young dog energy. He loves to run, play, hunt anything that moves, and can demolish most toys within 15 minutes. I keep a good supply of Kong toys around as these work best. He gets along great with my dogs (3 female dachshunds and a female golden retriever) and also does well with visiting dogs (females and males). He takes turns playing with them as most are older and he wears them out pretty quickly. He is not cat tested, but he has a pretty high prey drive. If it runs, he’ll chase it. He loves to follow me around the house and keep me company in the kitchen, especially if he thinks a handout is in order. While Harley is on the go most of the time, he also loves his lap and cuddle time. He exuberantly gives you kisses whenever your face is in range, but watch out, he might get you in the eye. Harley is very smart and learned the doggie door routine quickly, although he does not like to go out in the rain. He seems to prefer to sleep in the crate at night burrowed under fleece blankets, but he likes to spend a little time in the big bed before he is off to his crate. Harley is generally an easy going dog and accepts direction well, although at times he can be pretty strong willed, especially if he is outside hunting and does not want to come in. He will let you know quickly that hunting is serious business and he doesn’t want to be disturbed. We are working on his obedience skills in this area and with positive reinforcement he is improving but needs additional work. Harley would be great for someone who wants an active, loving companion. If you think Harley would fit your lifestyle, he is ready to show you all his moves. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
More about HARLEY...MD
Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
