BIO (8/21/16): Penny arrived in her foster home last evening, and her foster mom wanted to get her posted on the AADR website pronto since this precious little girl is so adoptable and deserves a forever home NOW!   Penny is oh, so-o-o TINY ... oh, so-o-o cute ... and oh, so-o-o loveable!  Yes, she is a little scared at the moment, but that's very understandable.  She is still in shock with so many recent changes in her life. Penny spent all day yesterday (over 16 hours) being transported to FL after being surrendered to AADR by a “breeder” in TN.  The “breeder” had over 40 dogs so it is unlikely that Penny got much one-on-one attention in the past.  That will all change now!

When Penny wags her tail, her whole body wags.  She is sweeter then sweet and has kisses to share once she feels safe.  She spent last night cuddled against her foster mom in the BIG bed.  Penny is getting along just fine with her foster sibs ... 3 females and one male.  She follows her new sibs outside to the fenced yard and did great walking on a leash with the pack this morning.  Penny would do very well in a home with another doxie to help her learn the household rules and routine.  She would also love a fenced yard since she is not familiar with pottying on leash.

AADR is hoping to find Penny a forever home here in FL since she does not need another long transport any time soon ... and being so small, she needs to stay in a warmer climate year round, too.  Any adopter must be willing to continue with Penny’s socialization skills and her house-training.  She is the size of a puppy and like a puppy is still a “work in progress” in becoming a companion.  However, Penny has no puppy teeth to bite you or chew up your slippers ... now how great is that?!? LOL

Once you fill out an application from the left hand column on our AADR website, please contact foster mom (Meg) meg1709@comcast.net for the latest update of this precious little girl.  Thank you for considering rescue for adoption!

P.S. from Penny: See the pic of me on the top step and my foster bro on the bottom step.  He is 10 lbs. and looks like a GIANT compared to me!  LOL  I am VERY tiny!!!  BTW, I will steal your heart the minute you see me ... promise!

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
