BIO:  CoCo is a wire-haired Dachshund with gorgeous soft chocolate fur with a few blond streaks that wisp  across his inquisitive face.  With eyes of brown that will melt your heart, this four year old pup came to us via an animal shelter in North Carolina.  He was surrendered as owner's sister abused and killed the other dog in household.  He was abused but to what extent is not known.  I can tell you that CoCo is skittish.  He bolts if someone comes up behind him and he is not yet accustomed to many different sounds such as garage doors and dishwashers to name a few.  He lacks full confidence but working with him in water therapy, he is beginning to get some of that back. I have not attempted to crate train.

CoCo is a loving dog.  He does not snap or bite but he does bark at the usual... strangers and door bells and the such.  Once he attaches to you, he loves to play with a ball, or sock, or anything he can run after or that squeaks.  He loves to take them on to the couch or your bed.  He will fetch and loves if you play that with him.   CoCo isn't all trusting but he is getting there.  He loves to kiss kiss kiss at bedtime and then curl up near you and sleep for the night.  He makes a bit of noise whilst dreaming but nothing that will wake you.

Outside CoCo is inquisitive and would require a fenced yard to run around in.  He is very particular about sniffing everything before he takes care of his business.  Multiple praises for being a good boy seem to make him happy.

In a few weeks I expect this bio to change as I learn more about him.  CoCo needs to just have a wee bit more time learning to trust us humans again and once he is no longer afraid, he will make the ultimate pet for a good strong pack leader.  He may just be fine with other dogs but we still have to test that out.

If you adopt CoCo and become his forever home, you will never look back.  Though now he has a few little problems they will pass.  This dog makes me happy and trust me, that isn't easy to do.  He will warm your heart and light up your life!  You can always be the first in line by filling out an application now.

=============== Information for all dogs/adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

We are now approved to adopt/foster in the state of NH but adopters will have to pay health certificate fee of $45.00 once to get the dog to our quarantine facility and another $50.00 fee to get the dog out of quarantine after two days.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
