Update 9/7/16
If you are looking for a sweet little companion for you and your pack, look no further. Fritz has so many great qualities from riding well in the car, to getting along with other animals, to walking on a leash like a perfect gentleman. I could talk all day about what a great little man he is! Please read below to learn more about Fritz and feel free to contact his Foster Mommy with any questions.
Update 7/22/16
Wow! You wanna talk about a happy little doggy! This guy has progressed leaps and bounds since first arriving in our home! Some doggies just take a little longer than others to acclimate to their new environment, especially when they may have come from not so great circumstances. Fritz is happy, playful, lovable and great with other dogs his size. He is totally fine with cats too. Since coming to live with us, we have installed a doggy door going out to a securely fenced area, and his potty habits have improved by 90%. Also, he has gained confidence which just really lets his little personality shine. He seems to like women better than men, but will warm up to men after a little bit of time (hours). He still does not care for his crate, and would love a home where crating was a minimum or not at all. If he does have to be crated, he is a Houdini and will escape unless you securely lock his crate. He is a smart little fellow! Fritz is a talker, but does not bark nearly as much as when he first arrived. It is just his way of communicating and he will quiet down if you tell him to, unless it is time for food!
If you are the lucky family that gets to adopt Fritz, he will be a perfect little gentleman if you are patient and loving with him and allow him all the time he needs to become comfortable in his new furever home!
Update 7/1/16
Hi! Fritz here and Foster Mommy says it is time for an update! It took me a little while to get completely comfortable in my Foster Home but I am very happy and still prefer to have a toy in my mouth almost all the time! When you throw the ball for me I am very good at bringing it back until I am ready for a break. I am very playful and get along very well with the other animals in the house. I think I would like a home that has another submissive doggy to pal around with. Foster Mommy says I am a little gentleman when we go for walks and she wishes I could help teach some of the other doggies to walk on the leash as well as I do. When it is time to eat I get excited and like to “talk” until my food is served. I also “talk” when I know Foster Mommy is getting ready to leave because I really wish she would just stay home with me all of the time! Going in the crate is one of my least favorite things and I would not make a good apartment dog. The big bed is where I prefer to sleep at night and I like to be right next to your head on my own pillow. I feel the most secure when I am close to my human and will do everything I can to stay close all of the time. My wish is to have a loving and patient family who will keep me and spoil me furever! . I know she will have all kinds of nice things to say about me!
Fritz came to AADR along with Buddy because their owner passed away and there was no one left willing to properly care for them. Fritz has not been with us for very long, but as soon as he came in the house, he snatched up a toy and has since been playing every chance he gets. He naps with his toys and will not go to bed at night unless they are put away. This little man has a lot of energy and he likes to talk! We are working on improving his potty habits. He really does not care for the crate and would love to be with someone who is home all day or at least a lot of the time. No matter where you go in your home, you will hear the pitter patter of his little feet right behind you just waiting to see what you will do next. Fritz loves to be near you and he is such a little helper that he will make sure he is right there when it is time to make your bed or fold your laundry! I am sure the longer he is with us we will find out what other kinds of things he likes to do. Look for updates in the near future at Allamericandachshundrescue.org and you are also welcome to contact Foster Mommy at Decollinss@aol.com.
