Happy Tales
Every one of these Dachshunds has been rescued by an angel...
Harley's Brave Journey Harley's Story is a great inspiration to AADR because it shows that no matter how desperate the situation, saving one life makes the ultimate difference. DeeAnn, Harley's foster mom, has included her personal account with Harley's amazing story and where he is now.Harley was found homeless and sick. He only had a 50% chance of survival. Now he is living a life of true happiness and contentment. Read More...

Hans...MO
Hans is doing fine. I am trying to attach a photo of him but I am not having much luck. I will have to do that at a later date.
Hans seems to fit in very well at our house. He has really become attached to our kids and sleeps on our older daughter's bed. He had a great time in the snow this morning. He got on the scent of a rabbit in the back yard and it went through the fence and got away. I couldn't get him to come in the house for anything and finally had to put my boots on and go get him. He didn't even want to come in for breakfast, which is really unusual for him. He loves to eat and barks at us if he thinks it is time for a meal. He and our other dog tried to trick my husband into feeding them a second meal the other night after I had fed them and left the house. Luckily my husband called and checked. We had fallen for this trick before with our other dog.
Hans is really playful. He and our older dog are getting along great. There was some jealousy at first, but they are getting along great now. We lost our old golden retriever about a year ago and our dachshund was very lonely for her. She is now playing with her toys again now that Hans is here.
We are all amazed that anyone would want to part with Hans. He is such a sweet dog. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about getting an older dog since we had always started with puppies in the past, but this has worked out very well. I don't think our older dog could have put up with the energy of a puppy and it was so nice not to have to housebreak a dog. His personality seems to fit right in with all of ours and he is now a member of our family. He is really happy here and acts as if this has always been his home.
If you have any questions, let me know. I will try to send that picture to you later after someone helps me with it. I always seem to have trouble attaching something to an e-mail.
Thanks,
Amy N.
Holly Noelie...KS
Holly has been an amazing addition to our family. She came into a home with my husband, myself, a long hair dachshund and a yellow lab. Holly fit in right away! She spent days watching what the other 2 dogs do and then would copy them. This has been funny and problematic. She has learned to sleep all night with dad and all day with mom, (I am a night shift pediatric nurse) but has learned to bark at me when she wants dinner, just like the other 2! :)
We have learned that she loves to be in the big bed, especially when it's cloudy and snowy. Holly is not a fan of snow!
My husband and I think she is pretty excited about being in a family that involves sleeping in the big bed, walks and belly rubs.
Holly is a loving, spunky, cuddly and funny dog and we can't imagine our lives without her. Thank you for this opportunity to make our home her forever home. We are truly blessed to have her.

HAVEN...IL
It's me, Emma (but I think you knew me as Haven)! I thought you would
like to see a current picture. (I'm the one without my mouth open, but
don't worry, my sister is quite harmless and really wouldn't eat me all
up!) It was 2 months ago yesterday that I went to my new home! I sure
have learned a lot in these 2 months! I play with toys (now that I know
what they are) and have my favorite ones that I carry around and take
with me to nap with on the couch. I also just LOVE treats! Boy oh boy,
they sure are good!
At first I was very scared but then I saw I had a Doxie sister and
everyone just loved me and cuddled me and were so nice to me! Moms says
I learned very quickly how to be a pet and be loved. And, wow, getting
petted all the time sure is nice too!
Mom takes me and my sister to our "beauty shop" appointment every month.
We get oatmeal baths, our ears cleaned (and then they smell all minty),
and our nails done. It sure is fun, but then we're quite tired so we
come home and take naps on our human brother's nice, big bed!
I have learned how to walk on a leash so now I get to go for walks with
my sister and that sure is fun. Plus now I walk with my tail up and
wagging.
We also go for lots of car rides. We sit in our car seat and it's up
high so we can look out the windows and see everything. I never knew
there was such a big world out there!
My sister has taught me how to bark when someone comes to the door. At
first I was all screechy sounding, but now I'm pretty good at it and
might even scare someone!
One of my favorite times is at night when we got to bed and I cuddle up
with Mom under the soft comforter. She gets us up early during the week
but then I get to eat so it's not too bad. I've gained a pound or so,
so now I'm not all boney.
Oh yeah, and this week I started school. We will go for 8 weeks until I
graduate. Now I have to do homework. The only good thing I can say
about homework is that I get even more treats!
We were hoping we could make it to the picnic tomorrow, but since it is
such a long ride from Chicago, and there's other stuff going on, we hope
to be able to make it next year cause I'd like to see everyone.
So don't worry about me cause I'm doing just fine and I hope all the
other Doxies find homes as good as mine.
Love,
Emma
