BIO:

Foster Mom thought I should tell my story so here I am.  Hi, my name is Christmas Holly, Holly for short.  Foster Mom saved me from the shelter where everyone seemed to just pass me by, which I just didn’t understand.  I’m a wonderful lady, I love people, I’m housebroken, love sleeping in my crate with my snuggly blanket and did I mention I LOVE people?  So why would someone want a puppy when they could have me?

Foster Mom says I am so sweet and pretty, I love sitting close to her on the big bed, the big chair and just about any where she is.  I’m a little girl at 11.5 lbs but I do love food, but then, I am a dachshund and well dachshunds do love to eat!  I did have to go to the doctor and have my teeth checked, I wasn’t even scared because I loved everyone there!  I was told I lost two of my teeth, I think they called them my ‘molars’ but I don’t really know what that is and it doesn’t stop me from eating.  I had never had my teeth cleaned or checked before so no surprise.  Thanks to the wonderful people at AADR my teeth are clean and I received a clean bill of health, I am up to date on all my shots, heartworm negative and spayed!!

I am so happy to be out of the shelter and living with my foster family at Christmas time.  We have 4 other dachshunds here, 2 boys and 2 girls, who I like pretty good, there are also 3 big dogs and 2 cats … I don’t mind the cats but sometimes the big dogs get too close to my food or bed and I tell them how much I don’t like it; so I chase them away!  Hey, they may be big but dachshunds are mighty!

I really love my foster home and am thankful for being out of the shelter but I would love a home all of my own with a family that will love me forever, I promise to do the same.  I hope you will contact my foster mom, I must admit I’m a pretty wonderful girl and I hope to not get passed by again.

Love,

Holly

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
