BIO

Hi! I’m Jake!

Jake, will you tell us a bit about yourself?

Sure dude (or dude-ette)!  My name is Jake and I love to eat and play!  It’s pretty much how I roll ya know?  Life is just full of all these great things like leaves blowin’ in the wind, birds flyin’ over my head, squirrels runnin’ up trees and man, life just doesn’t get better than that!  I love a full food dish, chasin’ my friends, layin’ on a lap on a rainy afternoon and just hangin’ with my pack (both human and canine) ya know?  I’m a pretty chilled-out dude except for that whole leash thing.  Man, I love to be close to my humans but are they that insecure where they need me to be THAT close?  I’m getting’ used to it though.  I get to go lots of places on the leash that I don’t get to go to when I’m not on it.  I do have a question though, how come humans don’t walk each other on leashes?   Man, is that unfair or what?”

Well Jake, that leash is very important to keeping you safe in your environment.  Speaking of environment, what would you like in your forever home?

Well, a magically refilling food dish would be great.  Just keep the chicken and the salmon comin’ in!  Outside of that, I kinda like kids; they’re fun so that would be nice.  If not, some active humans who like to do stuff with me.  I like a soft bed that I can sink into and I love to be outside.  That’s pretty much it ya’ know man?  Life is simple so let’s just not complicate it with a lot of unnecessary ‘stuff’!”

Jake and his siblings were placed in a shelter drop off box in Florence, Alabama.  They are a Dachshund mix yet very lean and will likely grow to be at most 15 pounds.

Jake is trained to us a dog door and a crate.  He is very bright, wants to please and will train quickly with consistent and positive reinforcement.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
