BIO:

Hunter is a courtesy listing and not associated with All American Dachshund Rescue.  Please contact Stephanie for further details on Hunter and how to adopt him.

I am a handsome fella who just wants some lovin’ and attention.  I adore being bathed and groomed, and I’ll sit for hours if you comb me.  Being pampered is my favorite past time and I can be your best friend whenever you need me. I love walks and being outside.  I’m sure I can catch one of those squirrels if they just slow down. I love my current owner but she’s moving to South America and can’t take me with her.  We’ll miss each other. Sometimes, she would let me sleep with her, and I liked that a lot.

I like to be around people, but I can be by myself too at times. Sometimes I get lonely and I worry if people are gone too long.  My owner says I have some separation anxiety but I’ve been doing a lot better at that lately. It’s just that my best dog buddy passed away last year and being alone has been difficult.

I’m good at protecting my property and will bark when I see things that don’t belong in the neighborhood. I do need my space because of my barking…an apartment wouldn’t work for me. Also, I don’t like thunderstorms and get a little nervous. At night I warn my owner of those big booming noises in the sky.

I’m house broken, but it sure has taken me a long time to train my owner.  She didn’t understand my subtle signals…I sniff gently at the door.  And, boy oh boy, if she misses it…well…sometimes I can’t wait. If someone would take me out regularly, I’m fine.

Take me home and I will find a way to your heart.  I’m good at listening and loving.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
