Hope was found wandering the streets by some good Samaritans who paid for vet care, gave her some TLC, and turned her in to AADR to place her in a safe, loving forever home. We think she was used as a backyard breeder because she’s so small and has beautiful piebald coloring. Hope is a bit shy at first, but warms up very well and is good with both her foster mom and dad. A gentle voice, kind words, and treats are sure to win her over in no time at all! She LOVES her foster brothers and sisters and gets along great with everybody. Hope is very small, has a petite build and is very LOOONG! So, children must be old enough to understand the importance of carefully handling a small dog and to let her take her time to warm up. Hope tested postitive for heartworms and was treated in October of 2010. After completion of her treatment, she still tests positive for heartworms. This means that the treatment did not kill all the worms so she will be adopted with a year’s supply of HeartGuard. After the continued treatment of heartworm prevention for a year, we expect that she will be heartworm free! AADR will either have her retested or pay for a reasonable test fee, whichever is appropriate. DO NOT let this stand in the way of adopting this precious girl. She’s happy, full of life, playful, and is enjoying life as a spoiled rotten little dachshund! Hope will shower you with puppy love, her full undivided attention, and warm your lap and heart!!! If you have any questions or want more pictures, email her foster mom, Stephanie: smburmei@comcast.net THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If transporting by volunteers through our organization or a commercial transporter, a $35 fee for the Health Certificate must be added to the adoption fee. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.
More about Hope...VA
Good with Dogs, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
