BIO: Ginger has spent her life having babies and has retired from this job.  She has decided to start working as an escort. She will escort you anywhere you will allow her, to the bathroom, outside, living room, car, etc. And she is having fun with it.  She loves to be near you. She did not know this with her previous job.

She loves to be in the mix of things and loves playing with the other dogs. She’s sweet, and likes being inside or outside. When outside, she likes a shaded area because her eyes are very light colored and sensitive to sunlight. She squints a lot when outside.  She is a good eater but needs to be carefully watched, since she can gain weight easily.

She was once a breeder dog from Arizona and is now enjoying retirement. She is only 4 years old and wants time with a new companion and finally get to enjoy her life on her own without puppies.

She feeds on the affections of humans and will gladly sit in your lap and have her ears and head scratched for hours.  She walks on a leash wonderfully and knows to go potty on a leash also.

Ginger is not 100% housebroken but we are working on it. She like most doxies is a very smart dog and she knows her name. She is very gentle when you give her treats and is not in a hurry to grab them from you.

Ginger will thrive best in a family where she has other canine companions to keep her company. However, she would also be fine as an only dog, to lavish all the attention on her.  She’ll do best with a family that can provide a yard OR  multiple daily walks to potty outside.

Ginger does not have a problem with a crate (I encourage one going into her new home to reinforce housebreaking skills) but she is not the type who will do well with being in a crate while her human family is away beyond a few hours.  She gets very lonely, when by herself.

Could you be Ginger’s next best friend and family, if you think you can offer her a lifetime of love and happiness, she is waiting for you to put in an application on her.

More about Ginger (4)...FL

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
