Update: We’ve decided that Manny must be short for Mannheim, a good German name. Manny is doing very well on his housetraining. He stays in a confined area with his dog friends during the day while I am at work and if he must go uses a pee pad. When I am home he gets free run of the house and has had done fine for several weeks now. Just be sure that he goes when you take him outside otherwise he may have an accident. He now runs right into his crate at bedtime and sleeps peacefully all night. He would also be perfectly happy sleeping with you. We visited a neighbor that has a grouchy old cat and a silly young kitten and Manny got along fine with both of them. Manny recently had his teeth cleaned and lost a few so he now has a bright shining smile. He is a little shy at first, but loves attention and loves to sit in your lap and be petted. Manny is a true gem, a gorgeous fellow with a great personality!
Manny was rescued from a hoarder in SC who had way too many dogs. He then spent 4 months in an animal shelter. Despite this undistinguished past, Manny is as sweet as can be. He is a very handsome fellow with a dark red brindle coat, silky black ears, and a winning smile. Manny has learned to walk well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood. He loves other dogs and gets along well with cats too. He is crate trained and after a few whines settles in and sleeps peacefully all night. Manny is doing well on his house training, but isn't perfect yet. His new owners will need to continue working with him and keep him on a schedule. He would do well with a dog door. Manny enjoys running around outside, so would be happiest with a fenced yard or regular trips to a dog park. In the house he is pretty easy-gong. He does like to perch on the furniture to survey his domain. Manny is a little shy at first, but once he gets to know you he will sit in your lap as long as you'll let him. He appreciates a good belly rub. If you are looking for a new friend who is as sweet as he is good-looking then Manny is the guy for you.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
