BIO: Are you looking for a loyal companion whose sole happiness is to be by your side? Are you looking for a laid back little guy that will be your best friend? How about a dachshund who gets along with everyone and is already completely trained? If so, consider adopting Hunter!
Hunter came from a Roanoke, VA shelter a few weeks ago. He was so happy to be out of that cold cage and into a warm home. He got home, snuggled up and slept the whole night! Hunter is SUCH a good boy!! He goes to the door when he's ready to be outside, and will lay by the door when he's ready to come in. He eats only after he's told, "okay". When called, he comes. He seems to understand "no", and wants to please.
Hunter's brindle coat is very smooth with some gray on his muzzle and around his eyes. Hunter has a few fatty lumps that are common in older dogs. Hunter went to the vet and the vet said the mass is nothing to worry about but if the new family wished, they can have it removed for cosmetic reasons. He has a heart murmur with no health effects. A heart murmur can be common in dogs as well as people. It is basically just an extra beat in the heart. Sometimes this can cause a dog to get tired or to cough; however, the vet was not concerned about Hunter's and said it was a mild murmur. Please touch base with Hunter's foster mom if you have additional questions. Overall, Hunter is a very healthy dog, he is very solid with little fat. He seems to have been well cared for up until recently.
Please consider giving this little guy a home of his own! All he wants to do is please and be loved. He is a precious soul and your family will be touched to have him in their lives!

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
