BIO UPDATE (3/28/2023): Don’t let this little girl slip by without giving her a fair chance. She is a tiny princess looking for her prince. She is a dog that likes everyone, but she seems to prefer men for companionship. She follows her foster father around like he is a rock star. All she asks in return is the ability to love and be loved in return. She gets an A+ in snuggles.
Rosie was instantly accepted by her foster dog pack. She gets along with male and female dogs alike. She loves to play and flip toys around.
This little lady likes to sleep in the big bed with the family pack, so if you do not allow it, do not apply. She uses a dog door like a trooper and loves to go out to patrol the yard and wood pile to look for mice.
Seriously, Rosie is a great dog. She would be a great addition to a loving family.
BIO: Rosie came from a hoarding case in South Central Alabama. We are not sure how many animals were involved, as all we heard about is Rosie. When she came to us, she was very fearful and unsocialized, but as she has been here, she is now very lovable and just wants to be held and loved on.
It’s apparent to us that she had to fight for any food she got because she was terribly thin when coming to us and is also food aggressive and inhales her food. For that reason, we have her eating out of a slow feeder bowl that will go with her to her forever home.
Understand you must go slow with her; she has to learn to trust you. You can’t just walk up and pick her up; she has to come to you. She has no signs of abuse, just not socialized.
Our must-haves for precious Rosie include:
- A fenced yard
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos
- Someone who has the patience to help her to learn that it is okay to trust because there is love to be had
- Someone who is home a lot to help her with housebreaking and learning to trust
- Maybe another younger dog but we think she would be okay being an only dog too
So if you want to help a dog on her way to recovery then this is your chance. If you have experience with an unsocialized dog, that’s a plus. Don’t let this little girl go homeless... open your home and heart.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.
Please do not let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just cannot get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
