BIO UPDATE (10/29/22):  Oliver is a sweet and wonderful young lad. He was very reserved for the first two days in his foster home, but as he warmed up, his personality came out, and he is a great little dog. He loves to be around his person/people. He is not the kind of dog that you can just let out in the backyard and expect him to do his business. He wants you to be near him. You need to go out with him, and he will then feel comfortable and do his business. He likes to sleep in the Big Bed, and he gets along with the male and females that are already in the house.

He is still working on his potty training. If you keep him on a schedule, he does fine. However, that schedule needs to be frequent. He still has issues with marking, hence the schedule. Ideally, the person who adopts him can be at home a lot to watch over him, love him, and receive lots of love in return.

Oliver is a great dog. Will you be the one who has the patience to see him grow into that treasured member of the family?

BIO:  Oliver was surrendered in Tennessee when his owner worked long hours and could not keep him on a potty schedule. Oliver is a friendly guy with the proper introductions. He loves to play with other dogs around his age and is a big lap baby. He loves to sleep in the Big Bed if you will let him. He will be a loyal companion for you, and all he asks in return is your love. Can you give him that?

Our must-haves for precious Oliver include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who is home all day, or at least a lot, as he doesn’t like to be crated for long periods
  • Another small, young dog to pal around with
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos

If you can meet all these requirements to make him happy, then please apply for his love.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
