BIO:  Gizmo came from a family in East Tennessee who said they could no longer care for him. They asked us to promise to find him a good home and so we will. He is very shy because he was not socialized as a puppy so it’s going to take a little time for the adopter to win his trust. Other than that, he’s a great dog and will make a wonderful pet!

Our must haves for gorgeous Gizmo inlcude:

  • A fenced yard
  • No children under the age of 12 years, visiting or living with adopter
  • No apartments or high-rises
  • Someone who is willing to let him sleep in the big bed (he loves that!)
  • Another young, small dog for him to learn from and play with (he doesn’t really know how to play yet)

Gizmo LOVES lap time and if you are looking for a furry blanket, then he’s your man!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $55 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state they are being fostered in.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
