BIO:  Hello, I’m Ginger! I was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter in East Tennessee. No one claimed me so I was picked up by AADR and I am so glad I was. When I had my initial vet exam, I had many of my teeth extracted and some mammary tumors removed. I feel so much better now and looking for my forever home. My wish list includes:

  • a fenced yard
  • no apartments or high rises
  • someone home a lot as I enjoy my humans
  • another senior SMALL dog to pal around with

If you want me to be your new fur baby, there’s a few things you need to know. I don’t like cold weather much, but I do love warm blankets and soft sweaters to wear outside. I will scoot outside and take care of business quickly, so neither of us has to stand out in the cold very long! I don’t mind using a pee pad, but if your bathroom rug looks lie a pee pad I might get confused and use it if I really have to go. I love breakfast and dinner so much that I might bark at you if you are slow to serve me so don’t make me wait too long! I love sleeping in the big bed, I’ll keep you warm all night. I like lap sitting and car rides too, don’t you?

Foster mom says: Ginger is the sweetest little girl! Whoever adopts her is getting a rare gem! She’s playful, affectionate, and a great guard dog... don’t wait to get your application in or she’ll be gone!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
