BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN............
ROGER is our burn boy and now he is healed enough to find a forever home. Because someone treated him the way they didn't doesn't stop him from being as sweet as he can be. When you pick him up he will lay his head on your shoulder and just melt right into you. He is just so sweet he deserves the best of homes. He loves to play with the other dogs that will play with him and when he's done playing he'll take a power nap and ready to go again. The great thing about ROGER is he's not distructive as a puppy but then he has lots of toys and other dogs to play with. He is doing very well on his house training skills but whomever adopts him will have to continue with patience and praise. He has been abused so "no negaitve" reinforcement for this boy only positive is needed or wanted. ROGER does have one flaw other than he may never have hair where he was burned. He is a little on the leggy side, meaning his legs are longer than a dachshunds legs should be so he'll never make it in the show ring but he will make it in anyone's heart that adopts him!!
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
