This is "Cara" . .Caramello. She had an accident when she was a year old. Since she continued to lick the wound, the vet thought it would be best to amputate part of her tail. Cara is a 10 lb, 4 yr old chocolate/tan female. She has been spayed, UTD with shots and heartworm. Cara is independent and loves playing outside. She is constantly "on the hunt" for lizards, frogs, and moles. She is not an alpha dog and gets along with other dogs. I am not sure about cats. If the neighbor's cat runs along the outside of our fence, she will run along side of the fence as if to chase it. She goes in and out through a doggie door and will sleep in a large pet taxi at night with her blanket. She loves tearing up a stuffed toy for the squeaker or chewing on a cow hoof chew. I am not certain about children since she has never been around them. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
