BIO:  Grace came from a breeder in NC who decided to retire her and let her have the pampered life she so deserves. We are looking for specific homes for all the dogs we took from this breeder:

  • You must have a fenced yard
  • You must be home a lot to house train her if you do not have a doggie door
  • You must have patience because she doesn’t know a lot of things that a well-socialized dog knows
  • You must have another dog to help her get acclimated as a pet

If you meet all these requirements then please apply to see if you can be approved to adopt her.  Please remember she is not leash trained so you will either need to come and get her or send money so a crate can be purchased so she can travel in it on a volunteer transport to get her to you.

Now about Grace... she is a wire little girl and she is shy so you’ll need to work with her to help her get used to you and your family. If you’ve had a wire before you’ll know how they are, sweet and very clownish. She will need another dog to show her the ropes and help her learn to be comfortable with her new family. If you do not have a doggie door then you’ll need to work with her on housebreaking. This is going to take patience if you want a wire but if you’ve had one then you’ll want another. Understand if you are approved you must either come to TN to get her or send money for us to buy a crate so we can send her up by volunteer transport with you taking the last leg. This little girl is sweet just not socialized.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Grace in TN

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
