BIO (5/15/2019):  Mason was turned in to an animal shelter because of an allergy in the family.  Mason is a sweet young fellow who gets along well with people and other dogs.  He is a little shy when he first meets new people, but he is happily wagging his tail in no time.  He loves to run around in the yard, so a fenced yard is a must for him.  He would enjoy another playful dog to frolic with, but would be okay as a single dog with somebody who is home most of the time.  He loves to go for walks.  He has not been around cats, but would probably want to chase or play with one.  He would be fine with children who are old enough to understand that they must be gentle with him.

Mason is doing well with housetraining, as long as he is taken out on a schedule and he is out long enough to take care of business.  He likes squeaky toys and Nylabones.  Although he is young, Mason is laid back when he is in the house.  At night he sleeps quietly in his crate, but he would be very happy to sleep with his people.  You may notice that his legs are longer than the average dachshund.  This sometimes happens when dachshunds are poorly bred.  He is all dachshund in every other way.

If you are looking for a handsome and sweet little walking buddy, Mason is the guy for you!

More about Mason in SC

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
