BIO: Rose came from a high kill shelter in rural Louisiana and we were asked if we would rescue her and we couldn't say “no”! In addition to being in a rural shelter in the South, being black is a death sentence too so we quickly stepped in.

So here she is in TN looking for her forever home and boy does she have energy! If you have a young dog that is bored and needs a playmate, well look no further, Rose is the one. We believe she is a Dachshund-Chihuahua mix, aka a Chiweenie. She has the long legs of a Chihuahua but the long body and ears of a Dachshund. She has a beautiful face and the disposition of an angel but remember she loves to play. So if you don’t have a younger dog for her to play with please don’t expect your adult dog to keep up with her. If she’s not able to burn off that energy then she’ll get destructive.

She will need further work with house breaking but she’s a quick study. So, here is our wish list for Rose:

  • Another younger dog for her to play with
  • A fenced yard
  • Someone home most of the time to teach her house manners
  • No crating for long periods of time

If you can fulfill these wishes and are looking for a companion for your dog then please apply... you won’t be sorry adopting Rose!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Rose in TN

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
