UPDATE: Marty has completely come out of his shell. He has put on some much needed weight (still has more to go but gaining by the day). His back does not seem to give him any problems. And his favorite past time is being out in the yard smelling all the smells he can. He is just a happy lil ole man!!! He is running and playing now with the other dogs in the home. He still LOVES his nap time and can sleep for many hours during the day, but when he is awake be ready for a super cuddler and kisser. He is just waiting now for a family to call his own.
Poor Marty was turned into the Chattanooga shelter as a stray. We do not know anything about his past due to him being a stray, but this poor little guy has endured A LOT. After we picked him up it was straight to the vet’s office for a complete check up. Turns out that Marty’s teeth were in such bad shape that they ALL had to be pulled, he has a herniated disk him his back. the beginning signs of loosing his sight, and very under weight. We are glad we were able to rescue Marty when we did because in this shape he wouldn’t have lasted much longer on the streets. He is now gaining weight, on meds for his back pain, and getting healthier by the day. He is completely house broken so at one point we believe that he had a home. He is great with kids as he sleeps with my son every night. He loves nothing more than to cuddle beside you or in your lap as long as you will let him. Not having any teeth doesn’t slow him down, he will just need a home that will water down his dry food so that he can eat it easily. Because of his back pain we will want him to go to a home with no stairs or someone that is committed to carrying him up and down the stairs every time it is needed. Marty is now such a happy boy, he wags his tail & barks with the rest of the crew when we arrive home in the evenings. If you feel you can give Marty a great home for the rest of his years please fill out an application and we will be in touch.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
