BIO: This loving dachshund, Roxy, needs a quiet loving home. She belonged to an 80 year old couple; the wife was going to be having bypass surgery and the man took her to the vet to be euthanized! Thank goodness the vet talked them into signing her over to them and then she was rescued by AADR.

Roxy was very scared when she arrived to us and very on guard. In just a few days she is now wagging her tail and much more relaxed. She has given her foster mommy kisses and gets very excited when I come home. Roxy is getting along fine with our 3 doxies, but they do not play together. She actually is jealous of them with me so would probably do best as an only dog. Roxy is not a barker on her own and actually runs to the door when our 3 bark. We have a neighbor cat who visits us daily inside and Roxy just looks at her with no reaction, so she will do fine in a home with a cat. She is still skittish around other people and her foster daddy, but improving. I think she was loved by her owner mommy, but the man was probably not loving toward her at all. I think as each day goes by, she will get better and better as to feeling safe so won’t be as skittish. Roxy is so sweet looking with her big eyes and her skin so smooth and bright. She likes to go on walks and is housebroken as long as you keep her on a regular schedule. Roxy is a few pounds overweight and we are working on that; she probably had a very sedentary life with the couple she was with. Roxy is a smart girl and fast leaner.

I know Roxy will be so grateful to whomever adopts her and gives her love. She wants to please and will be a great pal to have! You can tell she just wants to be loved and to give love. You may contact us at chlongo@knoloy.net for any questions, and to adopt this sweet girl, fill out an application via AADR website.

More about Roxy....VA

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
