BIO (update  9/5/2016):

Sam I Am!

Sam  loves meeting new people. He's a real cuddler – if you want a TV buddy, he's your guy.

He's great with cats and warms up to larger dogs after a bit. His foster brother is a 40 pound Spaniel mix.

Sam loves lap time! Other times he'll just curl up next to you – under his blanket. He loves to burrow under it whether on the couch or in his crate. He's very clean, too, and always cleans his paws when he comes inside. His foster family teases him by telling him he might be part cat.

His foster mom is retired and home most of the time. She thinks he would do well with someone who is home much of the time.

Sam loves to dance. He pops up on his hind legs at the drop of a hat or anytime he thinks a treat might be coming his way.

Sam walks well on a leash, loves car rides and doesn't even mind going to the vet. He's learning basic commands and working on potty training. He's had a couple of poo accidents at night but no other problems. When he lived with a doggie door, he had no accidents.  He's gotten very good about going to the door to let me know when he has to go out.

He has four teeth (all on the bottom) and needs his food softened. Just add room temperature water and let it soak for 5 minutes.

Sam is a great little dog – and I do mean little. He's only 12.2 pounds!

If you have questions please contact Sam's foster mom, Karen, at aadrtransport5@gmail.com.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
