Update, 7/22/15:

It has been a few weeks, so time for another update!  The longer Roscoe spends in his foster home, the more comfortable he becomes and the more he comes out of his shell.  At this point you could almost say “What shell??”!  When company comes he does not run to his crate or doggy bed like he used to, but sticks fast to his Foster Mommy until he feels comfortable.  When everyone is sitting, he does all the things he normally does when it is just us at home instead of confining himself to his bed or a doggy bed.  We took him to an outside birthday party with other dogs and he did great there too!  As always, Roscoe was good with all the other dogs and did not run or try to hide when someone wanted to pet him.  He also does well at places like PetSmart.  Roscoe is an attention hound!!  He wants to be the center of your world.  If someone else is getting attention, he makes sure to come over and try to hog it all for himself, or at the very least be included.  He might look a little sad in a couple of his pictures, but those are his “goo goo eyes, please pet me” looks.  Roscoe is a very happy, playful, loveable boy who just takes a little time to adjust to his new environment, but once he does you are in for a treat!   If you think you have the love and patients to give this boy his furever home, email Foster Mom at decollinss@aol.com and/or visit our Website at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org .

Update, 7/1/15:

Hello!  My Foster Mommy says I am doing so good that I have to update everyone!  I have adjusted well in my new foster home but I am still timid around strangers.  When company comes, I run to my crate or a doggy bed, however I will let them pet me if they must.  It takes a couple of days for me to adjust to new people.  Other doggies are a different story!  We have had company for a few days and I have been having an absolute ball playing with them!  They are both younger females and very playful but I do not have any problem keeping up! I also have no problem letting them know when I am finished playing.  I am not aggressive, but they get the hint.

Another thing I like to do is go for walks!  It is so fun to explore the neighborhood with my Foster Brother! Going bye bye is fun too.  Foster Mommy says we have to make a trip to Petsmart soon and she will let me pick out a toy!  I cannot wait to find my furever home and I hope there are other doggies to play with!  So, that is what I have been up to for the past few weeks.  If there is anything else you would like to know, email my Foster Mommy!  I bet she won’t have anything bad to say about me!
________________________

Roscoe is an extremely sweet but timid boy you cannot help but to love.  He is great with other dogs, both male and female, and also good with cats.  Roscoe prefers to spend his time with women and is very leery of men, so a home with a female or with a man who understands to go slow with Roscoe would be best.  He has not been in this foster home long, but we are going to continue to work on his trust issues with men and socialize him. He loves to be outside so a fenced yard would be a plus.  At night, Roscoe sleeps peacefully in the big bed and is so happy and excited to start his day when morning comes!  He is crate trained and it does not matter if you leave him for 5 minutes or 5 hours, the warm happy welcome you get when you come home will be the same.  He has this special way of putting his paws on your face to show affection.  Roscoe loves nothing more than to be a couch potato with you and he is so soft you do not want to stop petting him!  He will bark right along with the pack if someone is walking down the sidewalk or another dog is barking in the neighborhood, but he does not overdo it, he says his piece and is finished.  In his previous home, dentals were not a part of his care so sadly, he lost some teeth. We will continue to update on his progress as his confidence and personality bloom!  Unless, of course, someone snatches this sweet baby up first!  Please email me with any questions.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
