Update, 7-17-15:

Daisy Mae’s previous owners failed ownership and responsibility of being a good pet owner and surrendered her to AADR after four years of mismanagement. They allowed her to run the house and she was never taught the basic principles of being a good pet.

Since she has been with her new Foster Family- she sits on command, is house broken with access to a doggie door and follows simple commands such as: “No Bark, No Lick, sit, be nice and leave it”.  She loves to be held, sleeps in the Big Bed and gets along with her four legged foster sisters and brother.   She would do much better with a fenced in yard because she loves sun bathing on the deck during warm summer days.

She does show some mild fear anxiety when people come to the door- therefore she needs to be monitored and supported to give her the re-assurance everything is ok and no one is going to hurt her.  Once company is in the house she wants to lick them, get their attention and sit on their lap.  She has no food aggression or separation anxiety.

AADR feels a Dachshund Savvy home would best help Daisy Mae overcome her fear anxiety.  She needs a strong Pack Leader and another doxie to help guide her.  If you feel you can help Daisy Mae feel safe and loved she will follow you everywhere and be your best friend forever.

________________

Daisy Mae came from a home that allowed her to run the house and for that reason we feel that she needs someone that asserts themselves as strong pack leaders to continue to work with her to let her know she can’t be the leader. Once she understands that she is a DOLL.

She likes to sleep in the big bed but if needed will sleep in a crate but really prefers your bed and that’s where she’ll stay all night long.

She is doing wonderful on the doggie door and if none with a little refresher will go to the dog to be let out.

When Daisy Mae first came here she was scared of all the other fosters but has slowly gotten used to them but really think she’d be better in a home with another dog or none and someone that is home a lot. She loves lap time and she’ll follow you all over the house.

We’ve only had he a little while so stay tuned for more updates or if you are interested in Daisy Mae please contract her foster home for more details on this sweet mini girl.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
