Update 7-1-14:
Otis, just a sweet, loveable, yet masculine little man. Will go out when you ask him. Loves to be with you all the time. Snuggles beside you when you sit, or lays at your feet when you eat, he doesn’t beg, it’s not dignified! He is a Handsome man who loves his women, likes men as well, but needs some time to warm up to them.
Great with cats and other dogs, big or small. Will get in a crate, but would rather be with you.
I do let him sleep with me, he snuggles up to my back, it’s very comforting for me…and him. Loves to ride and walks well on a leash.

Otis #4 is a standard dachshund. While he was overweight when we brought him in at almost 26 lbs the foster mom has worked very hard and has him down to 19-20 lbs. He’s going to need to be monitored with food so he doesn’t get heavy again and put his back at risk due to being too heavy.
Otis came from a kill shelter in Middle TN when his owners dumped him for reasons unknown. He came in with Tracker but they can be separated and we feel they will both stand a better chance if separated but if you wish to adopt both of them then I’m sure a reduced adoption fee could be worked out for any approved adopter to take them. Since Otis has lost all his weight he’s become more active and will even play. Any time a dachshund gets one pound overweight it’s like adding 30 lbs to a human so if he’s lost 5 lbs then that’s like 150 lb weight loss to a human! So no wonder he feels better. We can tell he was fed from the table because when he first came into rescue he would beg from the table. We don’t allow that so now he’s gotten much better about that when we are eating. Will come with a 6 months supply of Heartgard. Once the Heartgard is gone he will need to be re-tested again then his adopter can put him on whichever prevention they choose.
Otis is housebroken and uses the doggie door like a champ but we also know that he would go to the door if he needed to go out. Otis likes his human and can sometimes get jealous if he thinks another male dog is honing in on his attention but he’s not that way with all males, just some. Females would be fine or his partner Tracker.
Otis is a great dog and we wish for him a fenced-in yard with a female sister or he can go alone as he would wait patiently for you to come home and be glad to see you, or he and Tracker would be great together waiting to see you. Please e mail foster mom for more details on this great boy.
