Rocky is a dachshund mix that was surrendered by his owner because they had a new baby and no time to spend with him. He's a very handsome boy with a soft, shiny coat. Rocky would love a fenced yard to play in and would be a good companion for another dog or a great family pet with kids to romp and play with. He's friendly and well behaved and just needs someone to pay attention to him and give him space to burn some energy. Rocky is housetrained and knows a few commands, but could use a refresher course! He will thrive in an environment where boundaries and limitations are clear and enforced consistently. His "behavior issues" are minor infractions needing corrections such as learning not to jump on people, not begging for food, not pulling on a leash, etc... He accepts correction easily and just needs to know what the rules are. He's not much of a barker and sleeps quietly at night in his crate. Rocky is slightly timid upon initial meetings, but warms very quickly when he knows you're his friend. Because he is a mix--maybe a little Beagle?--his build is sturdy and he is not as prone to typical doxie injuries making him a great choice for families or someone wanting an outdoor adventure companion. If you want more pictures or have additional questions, just email his foster mom!

If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You can pick up the dog or make arrangements for transport via paid ground transport of via volunteer transport. A $35 fee for a veterinarian-issued health certificate is required for ground transport.

Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in  adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Rocky...GA

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
