BIO UPDATE (8/10/2024): Marvin, aka “The Marvelous Mr. Marvin,” has settled into his foster home. He is getting along great with his foster brothers and sisters and enjoys snuggling with them. He loves pulling toys and bones out of the toy box and, of course, has found a couple that are his favorites.
The little guy’s separation anxiety is getting under control. We leave him out when we leave, and he will cry a little when we first leave but settles down in just a few minutes. He is such a fast learner and has learned our routine with his foster siblings. We have been working with Marvin to prevent any accidents in the house, and he is already doing better. We have doggie doors, so he usually follows our dogs when they go out. But we make sure to have him out regularly.
Marvin sleeps in the “Big Bed” as he loves his humans and wants to be where they are. You could not ask for a sweeter, more loving, and mellow dog. If you are looking for a dog that will sit with you, snuggle with you, follow you anywhere, and even let you brush his fur without trying to run away...then Marvin may be your man. This is one sweet and laid-back dog!
BIO: Marvin came from Arkansas as an owner surrender. Please don’t let that pretty face and your desire to have a wire make you want him without reading his bio. He is a sweet, sweet boy, but he has separation anxiety.
As long as you are around, he’s sweet, smart, and playful with other young small dogs, but when you are gone, he worries you won’t come back, so you’ll need experience with “separation anxiety” or be willing to work with him to get him over it. He has gotten better since he’s been in rescue, so our hope is that with your help when you adopt him, he’ll get over this hurdle.
He is friendly with people, dogs, and cats. He likes playing fetch or just playing with a toy but his favorite is playing with the other young foster dogs.
We want this to be his last home, so we will be very cautious where he goes. Sweet Marvin's must-haves include:
- A fenced yard
- Another young, small, playful dog
- Someone who works from home or is a stay-at-home person
- Someone who will help him with “separation anxiety”
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos (anything with shared walls)
You may want him, but can you help him? He is a wonderful, sweet, loving boy who deserves the best of homes, but we are going to be careful where he goes.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
