BIO:  Serenity came from a breeder release in North Carolina. Because she was a breeder dog she has not been socialized with people other than the owners of the breeding facility so she’s scared of new people and situations. Our must-haves for this sweet girl include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone with breeder release, adult dachshund experience
  • Someone who has patience while she learns to be a dog and realizes it could take several years, if not forever
  • Another young well-socialized small dog in the home for her to learn from
  • Someone home a lot to help her along her journey
  • No apartments or high rises

Serenity is still in Tennessee for now but will soon be traveling to New York to her new foster home. It’s important for former breeder dogs to be placed in homes with other well-socialized dogs and to separate them from other former breeder dogs so they can experience new things and not feed off each other. We have seen a little improvement in Serenity since she’s been in rescue but she’s going to need a lot more time and that’s where you come in, if you are willing to help her. You can’t work and give her the time she needs, you can’t have children or grandchildren under the age of 12 years and help her, you can’t live in an apartment and help her. Yes we are limiting the number of people that could adopt her but we know she needs that special someone who will be able to give her the home she deserves. Is that you?

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Serenity in MD

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
