BIO (10/29/2019):  What a sweet, sweet young man we have in Roscoe.  Roscoe has been in his foster home just over a week and we can say that he has one of the best temperaments of any foster dog we have seen.

At first, he is very shy and always has a look of “concern” on his face.  Once Roscoe starts to come out of his shell, he is as friendly a dog as there is.  He gets along with both male and female and he loves to play.  Roscoe is a bit of a velcro dog.  He follows you around the house and loves to be in your lap and loves to be held.  He likes to sleep in the big bed but is not overly fond of a crate.  He doesn’t hate it and he has never had an accident in his crate, but he will whine if he is left in the crate while you are around the house.  Speaking of accidents, he struggled with this at first but, while he still has an accident now and then, he is getting better.  He is getting used to his schedule and is definitely making progress.

Roscoe came from Alabama where his owner became too old and feeble to take care of him.  He was surrendered to rescue and is now looking for a forever home that will give him lots of attention and love.  Roscoe will return it threefold.  Do you have room in your home and heart for an absolute love bug?  If so, then Roscoe is your dachshund!!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Likes to be in your lap, Affectionate

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
