Hunny Bunny is wonderful little (approximately) 4-6 years old, female Doxie. She weighs approximately 13 pounds, is spayed, up to date on all shots, she has had a dental, is micro-chipped, she is on heart worm preventative, flea control and is house broken. I have been fostering Hunny for a little while now and she is such a fun and loving Doxie to have. She is now kennel trained and does not mind too much on being in one. If she begins to fuss/bark, we go up to her kennel and say “no-no” sternly and she hushes right up. Her favorite pass time is chewing on her chewies and sitting on one of my teenagers’ lap while he is playing his PlayStation game. Hunny is a sweet and loving little dog. She loves to play like a younger dog and then sit or lay down beside you when it’s bed time. Hunny usually sleeps with my youngest son at night and loves it! We do keep her on a leash or tie out because she likes to run after armadillo’s that she sees in our yard. She loves to go walking and runs around the house playing with the other dogs. We have a cat, and for the most she ignores her now---every so often she thinks she needs to bark at her, but that is all. She has toys and plays tug-a-war with our male Doxie and plays with the 2 smaller poodles as well. So far, she has met no strangers that she comes in contact with. She likes adults and children. If she does have something (like a chewy or food) she does not like for someone/dog to take it away. Hunny is, however, really getting more relaxed about that. We have been working with her on that every day and has now become so much more relaxed about that. Also, we make sure that we have plenty of chewies around the house…due to the fact she is not the only pet here. Like I said, she gets along with all the other pets and we have had no incidences with people she comes in contact with; except wanting to be petted on the tummy by them. Hunny needs a home with a fenced area. She needs a home with lots of love and kindness. Take her out regularly to potty, she will not have accidents and she will also use a doggy door if you have one. Remember, Hunny may be about 6 years old, but don’t let her age fool you…her personality is like a younger Doxie most of the time. She would be a loving and wonderful Doxie to bring into your home. Please think about adopting her…she needs her forever home soon. Thank you for considering a home for Hunny. Please call or email anytime and I will be glad to answer any questions or send more photos. Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
