BEING FOSTERED IN MIDDLE TN..........
Meet Hope. This precious girl was dumped in an animal shelter after she was used up as a breeding machine. The shelter stated there were over 300 dogs at this puppy mill and none received proper care. Hope’s teeth were terrible and she also was heartworm positive. Isn’t that a shame that they could use this precious dog to make money but couldn’t pay a few dollars a month to keep her from getting heartworms!
Hope has finished her heartworm treatment now and is doing great! She is living in a foster home with another dachshund, two Rottweilers, an elderly lab mix along with 2 cats. She enjoys going to the dog park and running around. She is learning to play with other dogs and enjoys the attention she gets from the people. She is still shy but is slowly coming out of her shell with the proper socialization.
Hope is still not house trained but we are working on this very diligently, a home with a fenced yard would probably be best because she can freely wander and find the right spot; she just doesn’t realize yet what the outdoors is all about. Hope has been watching the other dogs though and slowly coming around. She really likes being close to the male dachshund in the house so having another dog would probabyl be good for her but definitely not a necessity, she just needs to continue to learn how to be a dog instead of a ‘caged animal’.
Please consider giving a retired breeder dog a wonderful forever home. She does deserve a great retirement!!
To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. We will be in touch with you shortly to do a phone interview. Please keep in mind that we are all volunteers. If you would let your personal and vet references know that we will be calling it would be very helpful. Also, if you use two different vets’ clinics, please let us know.
Thanks again for your interest in adopting a homeless dachshund. Any specific questions concerning Hope can be sent directly to her foster mom, she would be happy to answer your questions!
Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue.

Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
