BIO: Gordon was surrendered to a small rural shelter because he did not do well with the small child in the family. He was overweight and through diet and exercise is now at a good weight. He is very food motivated, so his new family will have to be diligent to ensure that he remains slim and healthy. Gordon has a slightly low thyroid level and takes an inexpensive medication twice daily to ensure proper levels. He gobbles it down with his meals!
Gordon has spent time with respectful children as young as 8 years and was fine with them. He gets along well with other dogs, both large and small. On walks he is very interested in cats, birds, and other small animals. He probably would not do well with a cat in the house. He walks well on a leash. Gordon is housebroken and will use a pee pad if he can't get outside. At night he happily runs into his crate and sleeps quietly until morning! During the day he stays in a dog safe area. He enjoys shredding squeaky toys and chewing on Nylabones, but leaves other household items alone.
Gordon needs an experienced owner who won't allow him to be the boss. He is a quick learner and would be very good at obedience or other dog sports! He knows how to sit and is learning down. Gordon needs a fenced yard, but does enjoy his long walks and frequent visits to the dog park. He would be fine as an only dog as long as he gets attention. He does bark some when he wants something or sees something outside, so he would not be a good apartment dog.
If you are looking for a smart and handsome companion, Gordon is your guy!
