BIO:
We are looking for a very special home for Holly. Although we are not quite sure of her past, we do know that she was picked up as a stray in North Carolina, very thin and with very long nails. She was placed in the back of the shelter as non-adoptable. I cannot imagine why because she is about as sweet of a dog as you can get! A volunteer at the shelter contacted an AADR volunteer and this precious girl was brought to rescue.
Holly gets along very well with other dogs, both male and female, and she also does not mind the cat. She loves a lap or nice fluffy blankets to burrow in. Staying true to her dachshund traits, Holly loves meal time! You will find her prancing around with the other dogs in excitement waiting to be fed. We do not crate Holly. She is completely fine being gated in a room with potty pads (but do not be surprised if she still waits to go outside to potty) or left to roam the house. At night, she happily sleeps on the couch on and in a pile of blankets.
We have ramps to the couch and from the doggy door to the ground outside. Holly uses them like a champ! She has very limited vision, if any at all, but she can hear! It took her only about 1 day to learn the lay of the house and she knows her way around just as well as any sighted dog does. We have not tried taking her for any walks so we are unsure if she would enjoy them.
Our wish for Holly’s furever home is, of course, a fenced yard, limited time left home alone, and another dog to pal around with. Holly will do best in a calm environment without children or a lot of noise. We do not want to see Holly go to a home where she will be crated. This girl deserves a lot of love and lap time and she will give the same in return. She is quiet, rarely barks, and is so, so sweet!
We will continue to update as we see her personality flourish. Feel free to email Foster Mom at decollinss@aol.com with questions and you can visit http://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/ to fill out an application. Please take time to review the “Read Before You Adopt” portion of the Webpage.
