Easy going and loving, Ron is a joy to foster. Both he and his brother Harry are playful yet not destructive. Ron is a bit more vocal than Harry (and a bit larger too). Both boys love to play with soft toys and love to chew on things they find in the yard. Ron likes to hang out with the big dogs to get playing tips or whatever it is dogs talk about. He can be found snuggling up to our long-hair red dachshund which is a huge victory for him because it means he’s been allowed on ‘the adult beds’. These boys can be goofy, as all puppies are, which makes them so endearing. Ron is soft and cuddly and full of puppy kisses. His hair is a bit smoother than Harry’s. He loves to be in your lap or wherever you are in the house.

History:
Ron and Harry came to us from a family whose dachshund mated with another dog (a beagle).
Training:
Both Ron and his brother Harry:
use the dog door to go to the bathroom and have not had an accident in the house when the dog door is available for use (they have had an accident when in the main part of the house but he wasn’t supervised which is our fault because he’s still a puppy in training)
are crate trained
can go overnight without a crate and without an accident
will use a potty mat if provided but don’t need it as they prefer to go outside
can sit on command
are being taught not to jump and to bark at appropriate times
Best environment:
Both boys love to play outside so lots of play will be important for their development and joy. These puppies will be excellent with kids eight and up who are trained in how to treat animals respectfully and lovingly.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
