BIO:
Sugar has had a rough life. She lived outside for 14 years and was severely neglected. She was on the euthanasia list at the dog pound when she was pulled by AADR to give her a second chance for a happy life. All but two of her teeth had to be removed. In spite of the neglect, she has not lost hope of living her best life for the rest of her life.
Sugar has been living in her foster home for over a month and she has adapted to life in a four-dog household like a trooper. She uses the dog door with the other dogs and likes to hang out with them and lay in the sun. Sugar has a short bucket list. Since she is in the third act of her life, she just wants to be in a home where she would be showered with the love and kindness she so richly deserves. She loves to walk in the park and though 14 years of age, she has a pep in her step and can keep up with a fast walker. Sugar loves to ride in the car. She loves regular meals and she is willing to clean up any food scrap you accidentally or not so accidentally drop. She will sleep in a crate and is willing to be in a crate while you work, but she would rather sleep in the big bed.
If you are the person who can give Sugar the love and companionship she deserves, please complete an adoption application today. You will have a devoted little angel who will love you to the moon and back!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
