BIO (update 10/17/17):

This handsome dude with BIG brown eyes, brown nose, and a GORGEOUS deep red coat is Dunkin.  Dunkin has been in his FL foster home for three weeks now and is quickly learning the routine in the household.  He is very happy by himself, but gets along fine with the four other doxies (male and female) in his foster home.

In rescue, we often talk about the “Rule of 3”... three days, three weeks, three months!  For the first three days in a new home, a dog is in shock.  You’ll need three weeks to start to see their true personality.  It can take three months for a new dog to begin to understand the family rules.

Dunkin definitely was scared and in shock for several days after his lo-o-o-n-g transport from TN.  Dunkin was quite shy in the early weeks, but now a truly loving, sweet dog is emerging!  Each day gets easier for Dunkin... his foster home is very structured as to meals, walks, going outside, and bed times, thus he knows what to expect next.  With structure comes TRUST and Dunkin is now trusting his foster mom and fitting in very well.

Since we have no early history for Dunkin, we think it is best that he remain in FL and not have to make another long transport to a forever home.  We’ve told him there are AWESOME families right here in FL that would LOVE to have such a beautiful boy to cuddle with... oh, and give belly rubs, too (that’s a must!).

Dunkin’s foster mom will be happy to brag about this great dog once you fill out an application at www.allamericandachshundrescue.org.

BIO:   Hello, I'm Dunkin!  And I’m a shy guy.  If rescue had to sum up in one word what I am, it would be that.  After I get to know you though, I’ll be happy to see you and wag my tail and greet you, but I have to know you’re aok in my book first.  I wish I could tell you my history but I can’t.  I can only tell you what the lady said that turned me over to rescue.  She said that I came up in her driveway in Lewisburg, TN.  She wanted to keep me but she already had two dachshunds and the place she rented told her she could not have any more.  So, she reached out to AADR to take me in.  AADR gave me the fresh dental that I needed and I did lose some teeth and a canine or two, which are still healing and for now I have to eat softened food.

I love the company of other dogs and will often be found lying with my kennel mate.  I’m a happy boy who will walk around with my tail high and wagging it like a flag.  My skin was in poor shape when I came into rescue, but now I am getting some really good food and they said I should be looking a lot better in a month or two.

If you are interested in adopting me, I do come with a wish list.  I would like a fenced yard, another pup for a companion (but I would be ok if you don’t have one), and I would like for you to be home with me.  If you can do this, I’d be happy to come live at your house.

I really don’t like traveling in a crate so AADR is going to look for a home in FL.  This will allow you to come meet me and I can meet you.  We want to be ok with each other, right?

I’m having no issues with house manners, but I would want you to keep me on a schedule until I get used to your schedule.  I promise you, I’ll make your days sunny and bright!

Email my foster mom if you have any questions, she loves to talk about me!

More about Dunkin in FL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
