BIO:
This is our beautiful foster dog Laura. She is a standard size dachshund. She has big, beautiful eyes and a heart of gold. Laura was surrendered with her daughter to a shelter and no reason was given. Therefore, we do not know her background. The shelter did say she does not like cats, so she can't go to a home with cats. Laura came to our home and was very shy at first with our three dogs. Every day she is getting more relaxed. She is given a lot of love and we are letting her know she is safe. She loves to be held and give kisses. Laura is totally potty trained and uses the doggy door. At this time, she does not play with toys, but I think with time, when she feels like she belongs, she might play. She does really well walking on a leash and loves going for walks and car rides. She would do great as an only dog or with a docile dog.
We would love to see this little one be with someone that will give her the time necessary for her to feel secure and loved. Laura has a lot of love to give!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
