BIO Update 4/26/17:   Hey all - Spike checking in here!  I’ve been at my foster home for a couple of days and foster Mom calls me her energizer bunny doxie.  She loves to watch me run and can tell I would be a fabulous addition to any home!  There are 2 big dogs and 2 doxies here and we clicked right off the bat with no problem.  The cat may be a problem though.  He makes me want to chase him a lot so she’s thinking maybe I shouldn’t go to a home with one of those creatures.  According to her, “we shall see”.  One thing I do know: I do not care for kids. Being an older guy, these young whippersnappers just play on my nerves!

I love, love, love to explore my surroundings in the yard almost as much as I enjoy snoozing on the couch with my human.  My foster siblings are fun to pal around with too.  I also would be happy as an only dog, if my new peeps were able to spend time with me.  I don’t mind being crated either.

It’s really nice to be here, but I still dream about my furever home.  Can I count on you to help me settle down to a place I can call home?  I promise that we would have fun together and I would love you unconditionally.  I’m what my foster Mom calls a “hoot”.  Can you believe that?

Love, Spike

BIO:  Hi, my name is Spike!  I came from a home where the lady could not take care of me any longer.  I’m a great pup and deserve a lasting forever home.

I did lose some teeth due to poor dental care, but I can still eat hard food softened with just a tad bit of warm water.   I had to have my rear dewclaws removed because rescue said they can accidentally be ripped off.  They didn’t want me going through that so they took them off.  They are all healed and the stitches are out and I’m ready, I mean READY, for my next and last home.

I am low key, don’t bark, do fine with other small dogs and would be fine as an only dog or have another small dog to keep me company.

I’m in great health and could have another 5-8 years ahead of me yet so please don’t count me out.  I’ll be waiting for you every day when you come home from work to soothe your stress away.  Travel a lot?  NO PROBLEM!  I can go with you.  I would like a fenced in yard but don’t need one as long as you promise to keep me on a leash at all times.

JUST SITTING HERE WAITING FOR YOU!!!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids, Good with Adults

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
